THaW 1: A Tribute To Art Smith

So this is a little out of order, but here is my first THaW project of 2011.

My Cuff:

I made this BIG cuff bracelet as a tribute to Art Smith, and his amazing work. I saw a photo of his modern bracelet from 1948 ages ago....and it stuck. I've spent hours looking up his work and hoping, dreaming and preying that someday I'll be this good!! He was an amazing man.... sculpter, jewelry artist, jazz expert. He passed in the early 1980's, but his work lives on....the Brooklyn Museum has a long term exibit on his work "From the Village to Vogue" commenting on how this man from humble beginings landed in the pages of Vogue, Harper's and The New Yorker.

Art's Cuff and the photo that inspired it all:

Detail shots of my cuff:

Above you can see the tiny 2mm stones I set in the tubes on top of the cuff.

There are 6 of them in total.

Many you know how much I love my little "hidden" gems.

Here is a view of the back of the bracelet.

You can see how I cut the tubes on an angle to add some extra interest.

Here are some links if you are interested in learning more about this wonderful Modern Jewelry Artist!!
